LEVEL: BEGINNER - SOME PREVIOUS SEWING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
SIZES AVAILABLE: UK 6 - 28
This workshop is suitable for beginners who are looking to improve their skills or gain confidence. You should have some previous experience of using a sewing machine, but do not need to be proficient or regularly making your own clothes. The main skills you will learn is how to apply an invisible binding to a neckline and how to sew a right angled seam which is a feature of the Kabuki Tee. The workshop is limited to only 4 students so you will get plenty of one to one time and assistance. You will be taken step by step from how to prepare and cut your fabric, setting up a sewing machine, and how to choose the best sewing methods for your fabric. At the end of the day you will walk away from the workshop with a beautifully handmade and professional looking top.
The Kabuki Tee is a modern, oversized t-shirt, designed to look relaxed and feel easy to wear in a woven fabric without restricting movement.
The body is much wider than a regular t-shirt and the sleeves are longer than normal, sitting just above the elbow, with the angular kimono armholes being its hallmark feature. The neckline has a hidden binding to complement its minimalist design and the hem turn ups are extra deep to emphasise its boxy silhouette.
The Kabuki tee requires little fitting adjustments for most people, but we will address any fitting issues or concerns in the class.

Fabric of your choice – we recommend 1.5 metres for sizes 6-16 and 1.7 metre for sizes 18-28. Fabric should be pre-washed at 40 degrees and ironed. You want to go for something midweight, non-stretch and with a solid structure as this is easiest for new sewers. I recommend linen or 100% organic cotton poplin, drill, twill or canvas - even a light weight denim.
Thread colour of your choice (just one spool will be enough)
